3 Billion Apps Downloaded from Apple App Store

Apple announced that in 18 months of operational service App Store, users worldwide have already downloaded more than 3 billion applications for iPhone and iPod touch. This is 9 months after it had reached 1 billion and only 3 months after the App Store from 2 billion were withdrawn titles.
Apple Gets 10 000 Applications a Week For App Store

Business Week published an interview with the CEO of Apple – Phil Schiller in which he mentions the interesting details about the approval process of applications in App Store. According to him, the company is pleased with the process now and even render control more strict so during the preliminary review of applications for Apple officials discovered problems that the authors of the software is happy to correct before their application go public. Also learn that Apple gets a week for 10 000 new requests for applications that want to appear in the App Store. Clearly, not all of them are really suitable for end users and that Apple can hardly quick enough to consider any new applications.
1.8 Billion Applications Downloaded From App Store

As usual for any large event recently, Apple reveal statistics for the status of App Store. During yesterday event we learned so far that iPhone and iPod users touch have downloaded from App Store 1,8 billion applications. The service now offers 75 000 titles that are available in 30 million phones and 20 million iPod touch, sold over recent years. App Store launched in July 2008, which means that every minute has been downloaded more than 3000 applications.
You can now choose whether to show or hide your Offline contacts and regular GSM buddies. And for convenience, we’ve moved fring settings to the general iPhone settings, so there’s no need to open fring each time you want to make a small change.
You’ll also notice a small flag symbol in the top left hand corner of the dialer screen, Tap this and you’ll get a list of countries. Select the one you’re calling and the International dial code will automatically be entered making overseas Skype Out and SIP calls even easier.
Skype App is Now Available in the App Store
Skype, Inc. has just released their official Skype application for the iPhone and iPod touch.
Skype is a very popular voice-over-IP (VOIP) and instant messaging application that allows you to make phone calls over the internet. Calls can be made to other Skype users or to those with regular landline phones.
As restricted by Apple, the voice-over-IP phone calls will only work over Wi-Fi and not over the cellular connection. iPod Touch owners with a microphone can also take advantage of the VOIP calling.
Frustratingly enough, Skype app is crash-prone, it crashes way too much at this stage. We have nothing to complain since it is FREE but it can be a pain to use it as a desktop-skype replacement. You can now call those 1800 numbers for free from Skype.
